Sales & Market Development Internship

PACIFICAL cv has started to offer 3-month Sales & Market Development internships to students or professionals from the PNA countries. This way, Pacifical hopes to share its international commercial experience and know-how to contribute to business development in the PNA region.

Every 3 months, nationals from one PNA member country – who want to gain international commercial experience – can apply for one internship position at the company’s Headquarters in the Netherlands. 

This month, applicants from Nauru are welcome to apply for a 3-month internship at the company’s Headquarters in the Netherlands.

The application period is open until December 15th, 2017, so if you are interested please read all the following information and send your letter and CV to the email addresses detailed below. This 3-month internship will start March 25th, 2018.


Sales & Market Development Intern Job Description


Pacifical is the global tuna marketing company jointly set up by the 8 PNA Pacific Island nations in 2011 , to promote and actively trade PNA MSC certified sustainably caught free-school skipjack and yellowfin tuna, caught in the pristine and tuna-rich waters of PNA countries. PNA stands for Parties to the Nauru Agreement and it is made up of 8 countries in the Western and Central Pacific: Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu.  Although a Pacifical initiative, PNA office will support the initiative. 


Marketing Intern Responsibilities


  • Collecting quantitative and qualitative data from store-checks, internal and external market research
  • Performing market analysis and research on the European market for MSC Certified Tuna
  • Working together with the Pacifical team on the communication strategy towards PNA countries


Job Brief


We are looking for an enthusiastic PNA national to join our Sales & Market Development department as an intern and provide creative ideas to help achieve our goals. The selected candidate will carry out a project and have administrative duties to develop and implement marketing strategies.
As a marketing intern, the successful candidate will collaborate with our sales, market development and marketing team members in all stages of marketing campaigns. The intern’s insightful contribution will help develop, expand and maintain our Pacifical marketing channels and supply chains for PNA caught MSC certified free-school skipjack and yellowfin tuna in the market place.
This internship is intended to help PNA nationals acquire marketing skills and provide knowledge of various marketing strategies. Ultimately, the intern will gain broad commercial experience in sales, marketing and business and will ultimately prepare him/her to enter any fast paced work environment.




  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data from marketing campaigns,  store checks, internal and external market data in regards to MSC Sustainable certified Tuna and Pacifical logo
  • Perform market analysis and research on Pacifical and its competition
  • Support the market development team in daily administrative tasks
  • Work together with Pacifical team on a communication strategy towards PNA countries
  • Assist in marketing and advertising promotional activities (e.g. social media, direct mail and web) towards the PNA countries
  • Help organize marketing events at PNA meetings, tuna conferences and other important industry gatherings, when needed
  • Create a Pacifical landing page on the web, in the intern local language.
  • Prepare and present promotional presentations on PNA to Pacifical customers
  • Help develop and distribute marketing materials
  • Assist in managing and updating the Pacifical customer relationship management systems (CRM)



The candidates should be:


  • Passionate about the need of sustainable tuna catch in the Pacific / the PNA
  • Passionate about promotion of the PNA
  • Passion for Sales & Marketing and its best practices
  • Strong willingness to make a contribution to the economic development of PNA home country  and promote a home country’s involvement in the Pacific’s tuna conservation
  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
  • Good understanding of the basics of business and economy
  • Professional working attitude and mentality
  • Excellent English in verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed calculation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Desirable but not critical - current enrollment in a related University or College BS or Master degree (Preferably in Commercial, Economic or Marketing related study)
  • Age group: 22 – 40 years old
  • Willingness to live for 3 months in the Netherlands

Explanation of the Selection Procedure

PACIFICAL will each year make 3 internships of 3 months available for young people from one of PNA + Tokelau in their international commercial +market development department at the Pacifical headquarters in Oosterhout,  the Netherlands. 

Each time one specific PNA country will be invited to propose at least 3 local candidates for the internship. Pacifical will select from these min. 3 candidates - one intern. All proposed candidates must meet the profile. 

Application procedure:

  1. Write a letter detailing your Curriculum Vitae – extensive description of motivation for applying for this internship.
  2. After first screening 3 candidates will be selected
  3. First orientating Skype calls by Pacifical team of about 1 hour with each Candidate
  4. Second ( and possibly third ) Skype call with remaining candidate(s)
  5. Final selection of Intern : Local PNA authority and accepted candidate will be informed.
  6. Obtaining 3-month Schengen  tourist visa for intern if required, most PNA nations are now visa free. Intern will not be working – but LEARNING. This visa should give access to many EU countries except the UK. So Intern receives no salary but merely a contribution in his living expenses.
  7. Flight Tickets and housing in the Netherlands will be arranged 
  8. Intern will be welcomed and installed by Pacifical team at Oosterhout Head Office
  9. After the 3 month internship each student will get an extensive evaluation, which will be also shared with local PNA authority involved in the sending of the intern. 
  10. Intern will not be allowed to stay more than 3 months in the European Union . In case of exceeding the visa terms penalties, or misconduct whilst in the EU, legal consequences apply. ( EU authorities nowadays are extremely strict !)

All candidates will be subject to a contract outlining performance expectations, and personal conduct.

Pacifical reserves the right to repatriate at any time for breach of contract.
